Volunteer Opportunities 2025-2026

We love having volunteers in our school! Please review this list of school wide  opportunities and consider volunteering your time this school year! Remember, clearances are REQUIRED for all volunteers. By signing up here, you're expressing interest in helping out at particular events, and you will be on the list of the first folks contacted by committee chairs when they are planning their events. It's not binding, so if you're interested, go ahead and sign up.

You can find all the information you need for clearances here.

To signup you must either login or provide a first name, last name, and email address. Login

It's funny, but robots don't seem to be able to do simple math.
Event Support

These volunteer opportunities focus around a one-time event.  Both planning and day-of operations help is needed.  Signing up here is just expressing your interest in the committee.  Closer to the event, chairs will send out actual schedules with shifts to sign-up for.

Trunk or Treat (October 25)
This super fun Fall Event is a beloved MCH Tradition. Sign up here: https://howsepto.membershiptoolkit.com/volunteer/158275
60 total opportunity slots.

Literati Book Fair, 11/17-11/26
Assist students with making shopping lists and purchases and setup. Daytime and Evening shifts are needed. If you volunteer for this event, you will be contacted by the Fall Book Fair Committee Chairs to review specific needs as the event approaches.

Holiday Shop (12/9-12/11)
In early December, we transform our school library into a holiday shop, where kids can shop for gifts for family members and furry friends. The prices range from $1-8 dollars, so there is something in every budget. Volunteers help kids manage their budgets, ring them up at the register, and help them select the perfect gift for everyone no their list. It's super cute! Shifts are usually about 1-2 hours long and during the school day.

Spring Fair, Date TBD
Be a part of MCH's biggest event, the Spring Fair. MANY volunteers are needed to set-up/clean-up, work games, food, and raffles. As the event nears, chairs will send out sign-up sheets, and those who have shown interest on this form will get first dibs on shifts.

Colors of India Planning Committee
Our newest event, our third annual Colors of India celebration will take place in the Spring of 2026. If you would like to be a part of making this COLORFUL event happen, please sign up to be on the planning committee

Scholastic Book Fair (May 11-18)
Assist students with making shopping lists and purchases and setup. Daytime and Evening shifts are needed. If you volunteer for this event, you will be contacted by the Spring Book Fair Committee Chairs to review specific needs as the event approaches.

Ongoing Committees

These committees have work on projects that happen throughout the year, as opposed to one singular event. By signing up, you are expressing interest in joining a team of volunteers organized by an experienced chair or chairs.

NEW: Pause for Play Committee
This *new* committee is inspired by Jonathan Haidt's 2024 The Anxious Generation. The book calls upon its readers to make small changes in their community, namely by exploring ways to increase play-based and hands-on learning in and outside of the classroom. We realize that this seems like a daunting task, but hopefully with a committee of passionate parents we can work together to make less screen usage a reality. If you're looking for a group of like-minded parents committed to shifting how we use technology at home and at school, please join this committee!
50 total opportunity slots.

NEW: Book Fair Decorating Committee
We are looking for some folks who want to help with decorating in advance of our two book fairs (one in November, one in March). Next year, we are hoping to create a more exciting and enchanting space in our library in advance of these book fairs.
15 total opportunity slots.

Hospitality Committee
Our hospitality committee makes sure our Mary C. Howse teachers and staff get lots of love throughout the year. Join this committee to help with two annual conference dinners, stock the staff room, teacher appreciation week (May), and thoughtful events throughout the year.
10 total opportunity slots.

Yearbook Committee
Join this committee and get involved putting together our annual yearbook. This is a great option for anyone looking for a remote or work-from-home way to get more involved in our school.
10 total opportunity slots.

Spring Fair Planning Committee
Spring Fair is a huge undertaking! Luckily we have two returning co-chairs to lead the charge in 2026. We are looking for folks willing to serve as part of the planning committee.
10 total opportunity slots.

Pretzel Sales
Sell pretzels from 8:15am to 9:00am on Friday mornings beginning in mid-September. A great way to help out if you have the flexibility on Friday mornings. Students LOVE being able to help their parent sell to their classmates. A schedule to sign-up for particular Fridays will be sent out by the committee chair.

Bake Sale Committee
Make or contribute baked goods for various events, such as teacher appreciation dinners, trunk or treat or spring fair. This is a great "at home" volunteer opportunity!
